Nose: Gentle spices and intense sweetness of dried fruits are topped with chocolate, ripe oranges and oiled leather.
Taste: Full-bodied and bold, aromatic spices, fruit loaf and candied lemon are followed by a surge of vanilla, honey and caramel. The finish transforms from peppery and hot to deliciously sweet and smooth.

The anCnoc 18 Year Old has matured in Spanish oak ex-sherry casks and American oak ex-bourbon barrels and has been bottled in its most natural form, neither chill-filtered nor coloured. As a result this dram may develop a light haze with the addition of water or if kept at a cold temperature. This haze is a natural characteristic of whisky that is non chill-filtered.

Kilchoman's Machir Bay is an excellent single malt Scotch whisky from the isle of Islay. The distillers use whisky which has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry butts, resulting in a well-balanced flavour profile, with highlights of vanilla biscuits, light fruit and wafts of warm peat smoke. The 12 year old expression from Old Pulteney released in mid-2018 was entirely aged in bourbon casks, resulting in a heavy influence of bourbon sweetness - which helps to balance the characteristic coastal salinity of the whisky. An excellent introduction to Old Pulteney (though well worth a look even if you've already been introduced).

There's a street in Oregon where distilleries grow, and it's aptly named Distillery Row. Among them, there's Westward Distillery founded by one Christian Krogstad, an expert in craft beverages (from beer to wine to Whiskey). His magic shop is situated in a warehouse near the source of clean and crisp water from the Bull Run Watershed. He started making Whiskies in 2004 and since then, he created an imaginative new kind of Whiskey: still hooked to tradition, but with a modern twist, capturing the terroir of the NW. Westward American Single Malt Oregon Stout Whiskey is both mouthful and mouthwatering. It starts the same way as the classic Single Malt, but with a very tasty difference.

Maturation: The cask-finished process begins with the original Westward American Single Malt, which is then aged for up to five years in new, lightly charred American oak barrels. The whiskey is then finished for up to 12 months in French Oak wine casks sourced from a select group of award-winning wineries in the region, allowing the bold and robust notes of the original whiskey to blend harmoniously with the unique flavours of the Pinot Noir cask.
